Small Claims Price Hikes
The Consumers’ Association of Ireland welcomes the long awaited increase in the claims limit for consumers in the Small Claims Court from 1270euro to 2000euro.
What is not welcomed is the fact that the application fee has significantly increased also for already overburdened consumers.
A comparison of the two indicates an increase of 58% in the claims limit but an astonishing 67% increase in the application fee which rises from 9euro to 15euro.
CAI Chief Executive, Dermott Jewell, commented that “It is not unreasonable that the administration costs should increase by some reasonable degree. However, considering the fact that this is a measure of last resort for the consumer in attempting to attain what is their legal entitlement under consumer law, the inequality in the level of increases speaks volumes.”
